Ancient Light
A visual journey through real astrophotography captured from Luxembourg — where science, art and deep time meet to reveal the quiet beauty of the universe still shining above us.
Light that travelled before reaching us
Ancient Light is not only an exhibition of beautiful night-sky images. It is an invitation to understand what we are really looking at when we see the stars.
An exhibition about distance, time and darkness.
Every photograph in Ancient Light is made from photons that crossed immense distances before reaching our skies. Some of this light began its journey years, centuries or even millions of years ago. When visitors stand in front of these images, they are not only looking at space; they are looking into time.
Created by Nightwise, the exhibition brings together astrophotography captured from Luxembourg by Adriano Anfuso and Loïc Hommel. It connects accessible astronomy, visual storytelling and scientific mediation, making the night sky understandable without removing its sense of wonder.
In a world where artificial light slowly erases the stars, Ancient Light also speaks about what we are losing. It gently raises awareness of light pollution and its effects on biodiversity, ecosystems, human wellbeing and our shared ability to experience the natural night.
More than a gallery
Ancient Light can live inside cultural venues, schools, hospitals, institutions and public spaces. It can also be combined with talks, guided visits, workshops and awareness activities.
A calm encounter with the universe
Ancient Light is an astrophotography exhibition in Luxembourg designed to make astronomy accessible, emotional and scientifically meaningful. Visitors are invited to slow down, look carefully and rediscover the sky as something close, fragile and worth protecting — not only as a distant scientific subject, but as part of our shared environment.
Science without distance
Captions and mediation can be adapted to the audience: families, students, visitors, staff, cultural audiences or institutional guests.
Darkness as heritage
Ancient Light helps visitors understand why the natural night matters for science, culture, biodiversity and wellbeing. It turns astrophotography into a quiet, accessible conversation about what we see, what we lose, and what we can still protect.

Ancient Light has been presented in different contexts and is now preparing for its next edition, adapting its atmosphere, mediation and visual rhythm to each host venue.
